My newest post at the Adafruit Learning Center is up.. learn to make a light-up twinkling parasol.
This parasol will shield you from the fierce rays of the sun, and protect you from the dark, fearsome things of the night.Neopixels surround the parasol’s edge, giving a beautiful, customizable twinkling glow to its bearer. Learn to easily choose color palettes to go with your outfit for the evening, or stack up hundreds of different palettes for a light show that lasts all night without repeating.
Learn to make this gorgeous parasol — it’s a fairly easy, beginner-level project. It features a Teensy 3.2 microcontroller and individual neopixels. I just took a trip to New Orleans and had an opportunity to wander around Frenchman Street and also the China Lights exhibit with my parasol, and it was a huge hit and a huge amount of fun.
I don’t have plans to go to Burning Man this year, but having this parasol almost makes me want to go.. it’d be such a perfect Playa prop, lighting my way at night and keeping me in the shade during the day.
