Mermaid Glimmer’s Jellyfish Grotto
50 iridescent jellyfish hang silently over the heads of viewers. During the daytime the sunlight filters through the rainbow jellies, creating a beautiful play of light and shadow on the ground. At night, the jellies are illuminated with animated lights, connected and controlled via a wifi network. The swarm appears to come alive as lights play through the jellyfish with a beautiful array of colors and patterns. The jellies whisper, shout, giggle, and glow through light animations, delighting the viewers who walk underneath.
This Jellyfish swarm was first installed at the Autumn Lights Festival in Oakland, CA in 2022. This long-running festival showcases hundreds of light artists and installations and is truly a delight to the over 11,000 visitors it receives each year. Visitors to the garden could stroll beneath the jellyfish, which were suspended between the trees, creating a tunnel of light and an undersea grotto feel for the festival.
The jellyfish have found their permanent home at Dive Bar in Sacramento, California. Dive Bar is a one-of-a-kind venue with a huge 40 foot mermaid aquarium tank installed above the bar. Patrons come out to dance, drink, and watch “real” mermaids swim every single night. The 50 jellyfish hang in the front room above the dance floor, where bar patrons can feel the Tiki Bar vibe and sit for hours, enjoying the the animated lights dancing overhead.
